YOUNG OCEANS, self-described as a “neo-alternative worship project,” originated from the worship team at Trinity Grace Church in New York. The band deviates from both congregational tradition and Billboard-pleasing alt-pop formats with much lengthier songs, at times sounding like prayer set to music.
After hosting several whimsical worship gatherings, YOUNG OCEANS composed their self-titled debut album. Though it might not sound traditional, many of its tracks display worship in the truest sense—a rhythm of revelation and response.
YOUNG OCEANS’ lyrics speak to God’s power:
- “Great Is Our God” celebrates the love of God, in awe of his ways. The song responds to the stunning grace that God freely grants us.
- “Come Holy One” articulates gratitude for connection with God through Jesus. A prayerful invitation for God to invade our hearts, the song voices a longing for the Holy Spirit to fill us with the light that only God can grant.
- “I Will Be Still” promises to trust the Savior. As fear knocks daily on the doors of our hearts, “I Will Be Still” reminds us to allow grace to answer—it’s a reminder that worry and fear were crushed under the weight of the cross.
Don’t miss the beautiful music of YOUNG OCEANS. It models intimate love for Jesus; if you let it, it will reignite your belief in grace.
